Local Councillors are elected by the community to decide how the council should carry out its various activities. They represent public interest as well as individuals living within the ward in which he or she has been elected to serve a term of office.

They have regular contact with the general public through council meetings and telephone calls.

I am 57 years old, and live in the centre of town, in North Street, with my wife and son. I became interested in local politics some 10 years ago and joined the Town Council. I was elected Mayor of St Columb Major in 2013, a post I have held for 8 years. I was also elected as the Cornwall Councillor for the Electoral Division of St Columb Major and St Wenn in 2017, and re-elected in 2021 to serve the now much bigger division of St Columb Major, St Mawgan and St Wenn. I am currently Chairman of Cornwall Council's Standards Committee, a post I have held for 5 years. I was recently elected as Chairman of the Newquay and St Columb Community Network Panel. I would describe myself as a hard-working, dedicated local politician, committed to serving the people to the best of my ability. I am a very proud Cornishman, who previously spent 10 years in the British Army, and a further 10 years as a radio presenter with BBC Radio Cornwall.

"I have lived in the Parish all my life. I worked in town as a hairdresser for ma number of years and also was a carer in the residential home at Philiphaugh. I joined the Town Council 6 years ago, to help with the projects that needed doing in the town, and within areas of the Parish".
